About N.A.N.A.

Natural Awareness News Agency covers the places where the human-built world meets the natural one. Gardens and paddocks. Sun and storms. Mines, clearings and new estates. Data centres and the water they drink. We report what the source says, and then a nana tells you what she thinks, clearly labelled.

Since 2009

N.A.N.A. has been in print on the NSW Mid North Coast since 2009, passed hand to hand around the Manning, Taree and Port Macquarie. This website isn't a new brand. It's the next chapter of the same one, with the same habit of noticing things and saying so.

Why nanas?

Why nanas? Because they've seen it all, they're not in a hurry, and they won't be talked over.

Our presenters are the Circle: Bea, Sol, Flint and Pixie Lee, one for each desk. In the Bungalow23 section, Matron Iris and Gran Hazel look after the body. They knit, they watch, they read the source, and they ask the question nobody else asked.

What we cover

Nature and natural events. Permaculture and monoculture, and the principles behind growing well. Earth's response to the outer world: the sun, solar cycles and space weather. Earth's response to the inner world: mining, land clearing and development. And emergent technology, and what it means for land, water and community.

How we pay for it

N.A.N.A. is free to read. It's paid for by a small number of clearly marked ads, and by the family's own tools and the nanas' goods, which you'll find on our Support page. Advertisers never see a story before it runs and never choose what we cover.

How we work

Every story links to a named source. Opinion lives under its own label. Our presenters are AI characters, and we say so on every page. Read our Editorial Standards for the full detail.
