Rocky Point Sugar Mill on the Gold Coast gave notice in June to end its cane supply agreement after the 2027 season. The district grows about 290,000 tonnes of cane a year. The next mill is Condong, over the border in New South Wales, 100 kilometres away.

Local Canegrowers chair Greg Zipf called it devastating. He also said, "We're not going to lie down and throw our hands in the air." Good man.
