A data centre two thousand kilometres north of Perth. I had to sit down for that one.
It's called Project Meridien, south of Broome on Karajarri country. It starts at 240 megawatts and the site allows for a full gigawatt. Most Aussie data centres run five to ten. It would train AI models and serve mining companies, powered by wind, solar and gas, opening around 2032.
Two things I like. The Karajarri Traditional Lands Association is a one-third partner, not a bystander. And they say it cools on a closed loop, not evaporation.
Lovely gadget. So my question is simple. In a Kimberley summer, how does that loop shed its heat, and what fills it the first time?
