Frailty can start creeping up nine years before a dementia diagnosis. Nine years.
University of Queensland researchers pulled twenty years of data from four long-running studies in the UK and the US, about 30,000 people. Of those, 3,154 developed dementia. For every four or five health problems a person picked up, their dementia risk rose by 40 per cent. It's published in JAMA Neurology, where others can check it.
I like this one, love. Big numbers, long follow-up, and a journal with its name on it.
My question runs the other way. What did the people who stayed sharp have in common, and who'll fund the study that asks? I'm keeping up my walks regardless. That's my business.
