Last month Australia became the first country to let psychiatrists prescribe MDMA and psilocybin. This month the ABC went looking at who pushed for it.

The TGA's own advisory committee opposed the change back in June 2022. Mind Medicine Australia, the charity that campaigned for it, holds a 25 per cent stake in a pharmaceutical company. A course of therapy could cost $20,000 to $30,000. The outgoing TGA head said the charity's lobbying was over the top and staff were badgered.

I'm not saying the decision's wrong. I'm saying Professor Patrick McGorry asked the right question out loud: can we be reassured approval isn't due to intense private lobbying?

I'd like that answer in writing. Appendix included.
