Nany Maree

For the first time since the PBS began, the most you'll pay for a script is going down. From $42.50 to $30. I had to read it twice.

The bill passed the House in September and the Senate in October, and got royal assent on 9 November. It cuts the general patient charge to $30, indexed each year, and lets pharmacists offer discounts on some medicines priced between the old charge and the new one.

Twelve dollars fifty a script. For anyone on three or four regular medicines, that's real money, and I won't pretend otherwise.

Here's my fine-print question. "Indexed annually" means it creeps back up. How long before thirty dollars is forty-two again? I'll be watching the price sticker every January.
