Over 2020 and 2021 put together, Australia logged 598 confirmed flu cases. In the first four months of this year, it logged 5,049. The flu didn't go anywhere. It was waiting at the gate.
In the week to 14 May, NSW alone confirmed 3,601 cases, up 63 per cent on the week before. Queensland's Premier compared this season to 2017. Queensland has made flu shots free for everyone, and the AMA wants the other states to follow.
Here's the bit I liked. The free-shot announcement caught Queensland GPs on the hop. Nobody had sorted out how they'd be paid back for vaccines they'd already bought.
That's the system all over. Good idea, announced first, paperwork later. Whatever you decide for your own arm, ask your clinic how they're placed.
