Provisional. That's the word I underlined twice on Monday.
The TGA has approved the Pfizer vaccine for people sixteen and over, two doses at least 21 days apart. It's a provisional approval that runs for two years, with the TGA keeping watch on safety the whole way. The rollout's now looking like late February, and it won't be mandatory, even for aged care staff.
Brendan Murphy from Health said it plainly. We don't yet know how well these vaccines stop the virus spreading. I respect that. Honest beats glossy every time.
For the frail and very elderly, it's a careful clinical decision, case by case. Fair enough. My question is who sits down and explains the fine print to them, and how long they get to read it.
